    A Leader in Latin America

Brazil is the largest economy in Latin America and one of the 10 largest countries in the world in population, land and gross domestic product
(GDP). A major player in international trade, Brazil has proved to be an open and vibrant country with a diverse economy and one of the largest consumer markets in the world. It also has a highly productive agricultural sector, a large and sophisticated industrial base, one of the most solid and prudently regulated financial sectors of the G20, the largest stock market in Latin America and abundant natural resources. This section provides a snapshot of Brazil, including a country profile, its economy, institutions, openness to foreign investment, financial system, infrastructure and participation in international trade.

    Agribusiness

Brazil has the right environment and conditions to increase its food production, combining the world’s increased freshwater availability and one of the largest arable land in the world, with 388 million hectares of fertile and productive land – 90 million of which are grown.

Brazil is one of the few countries still able to increase its acreage, as it has 115 million hectares of land available, according to Brazilian agricultural research firm Embrapa. Large portions of Cerrado (savannah or prairie region) are still available for cultivation, leaving considerable room for growth in the country’s commercial agriculture sector.
